Scientist / Senior Scientist, Chemical Biology

  • We are seeking a creative, highly motivated, responsible and dynamic Scientist / Senior Scientist to join our R&D division to contribute to high-impact and fast-paced research and drug discovery.
  • This position is a full-time position in the company’s San Diego headquarters.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of quantitative cellular, biochemical and/or biophysical assays to measure cellular target occupancy and establish mechanistic rationale for drug candidate identification.
  • Collaborate with chemists in the design and synthesis of compounds that can probe novel drug binding sites and elucidate the chemical features required for activity.
  • Apply genetic and/or quantitative proteomics methods (e.g. label-free, TMT, SILAC) to study pathways and identify targets.
  • Employ state-of-the-art assays for target and drug binding site identification and validation
  • Develop disease-relevant biochemical and cell-based assays to characterize compounds in close collaboration with our disease area experts (including, but not limited, to oncology, neuroscience, musculoskeletal, immunology, etc.).
  • Develop knowledge of and make recommendations about future applications of chemistry to tackle targets classes.
  • Engage in data analysis, presenting results, and working collaboratively with others to achieve objectives and timelines
  • Analyzing and documenting experimental data in electronic notebooks in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with the company rules
  • Presenting scientific data to colleagues and assisting in the preparation of internal and external presentations (oral, posters, and publications)
  • Manage 1-2 Research Associates as required


  • Ph.D. in Chemical Biology, Biological Sciences or related field with at least 3+ years of post-doctoral training and/or 3+ years of pharmaceutical/ biotechnology industry experience.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in quantitative Chemical Biology techniques in drug discovery, target engagement, drug binding and evaluation is required.
  • Broad knowledge of Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, assay development.
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture, cellular, molecular and biochemical/biophysical assays and associated techniques.
  • Knowledge of MS-based data processing and analysis, including proteomics software. Experience working with bioinformaticians a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Chemistry and probe design a plus.
  • Proven track record of scientific contributions in chemical biology and functional genomics as evidenced by quality and quantity of publications and presentations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate in a team environment and work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Outstanding organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to provide novel creative solutions to challenging problems. Desire to learn and tackle new challenges and initiatives.
  • Level will be commensurate with experience
