Research Associate (Compound Management)

  • We are seeking a creative, highly motivated, responsible and dynamic Research Associate to join our R&D division to contribute to high-impact and fast-paced research and drug discovery.
  • This position is a full-time position in the company’s San Diego headquarters.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Organization and management of small molecule compound inventory and collections in powder and solution form, stored in a variety of container types.
  • Format and manage compound libraries in various plate formats.
  • Fulfil compound orders and requests (plates and vials) as needed to support Chemistry, Biology, and Pharmacology groups
  • Operation and routine maintenance of static and acoustic compound transfer (Labcyte ECHO), advanced liquid handling systems (Tecan EVO), and other related lab instrumentation
  • Tare, record, and organize vials for compound storage in powder form and provide pre-tared vial stock to Chemistry
  • Independent record-keeping and inventory management to ensure updated resources and information is available and accessible to fellow Scientists
  • Assist in setup and execution of high-throughput screening, as necessary.
  • Documenting appropriately in electronic notebooks in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with the company rules
  • Supervise interns as necessary.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Engineering or related field with at least 3+ years of pharmaceutical/ biotechnology industry experience in compound/sample management.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in the operation of lab automation including screening equipment, static and acoustic compound transfer (Labcyte ECHO) and advanced liquid handling systems (Tecan EVO, etc.), is required.
  • Knowledge of inventory management systems, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is required.
  • Broad knowledge of Chemistry, Biology, assay development and screening is required.
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture, cellular, molecular and biochemical/biophysical assays and associated techniques a plus.
  • Proven track record of scientific contributions through efficient management of compound/sample inventories.
  • Proven ability to collaborate in a team environment and work independently.
  • Outstanding organizational and critical thinking skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide novel creative solutions to challenging problems. Desire to learn and tackle new challenges and initiatives.
  • Level will be commensurate with experience
